PERMACHIP DESIGNER COATINGS APPLICATION BULLETIN

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

A highly functional coloured epoxy coating. Performs extremely well as a high build protective coating for concrete, concrete blocks, hardies cement sheet, and plaster. Outlasts conventional paint films by 8-10 times. Possesses excellent chemical resistance to a wide range of substances. Available in a wide range of colours. It's strong, hard wearing and chemically resistant nature makes it suitable for vehicular traffic and forklift use, or other hard wear environments. The coating thickness varies depending on the site requirements, which begins with the smooth finish (not anti skid) at 400 microns, to a highly textured high grip surface at 2.5 mm, with a range of finishes in between.

Exterior situations - Ultra violet light has no detrimental effect on the overall performance of these coatings, however chalking of the surface film does take place. Therefore for exterior applications it is recommended that only Permachip Marbling Resin be used which is then glazed with Permaglaze. Every 5-8 years a single maintenance coat will restore the gloss and loss of surface film.

Interior situations - The surface does not chalk, as with the exterior applications. Therefore an overglaze is optional. The only need for a maintenance topcoat is in the case of excessive wear.

USES

1 NON ANTI-SKID FINISH

400 microns - Best used for areas where easy cleaning is the highest consideration such as walls, swimming pools, tanks etc. This finish is not anti-skid but is very lightly textured.

2 ANTI SKID FINISHES - PARTIAL BROADCAST OF AGGREGATE

(a) Fine Finish 450 microns - Best used for light foot traffic in dry areas.
(b) Medium Finish 600 microns - Best used for light foot traffic in wet area locations
(c) Coarse Finish 1mm - Best used for light foot traffic in greasy areas.

3 ANTI SKID FINISHES - FULL BROADCAST OF AGGREGATE
(a) Fine Finish 600 microns - Best used for light foot traffic in wet areas.
(b) Medium Finish 1.2mm microns - Best used for vehicular or light foot traffic in wet area locations
(c) Coarse Finish 2.5mm - Best used for vehicular or light foot traffic in extremely greasy areas.

COLOURS AVAILABLE

In the full gloss non-glazed version (suitable only for interior use) all pastel to mid range colours are available including off white. In semi gloss version, including the glazed finish (for interior or exterior use) all colours are available, except very light colours. Clients should note there might be colour differences in production batches and need to check that the colours available will meet with their requirements.

COATING APPLICATION

PRIMER

Use Permachip Adhesion Promoter @ approximately 8 m2 per lt. Allow to stand for one hour before use, and apply thinly, being careful to produce a 'puddle free' coating. (NOTE if the surface has been totally flushed using Permachip Epoxy Flushing Compound, no primer is needed prior to application of the coating) Allow at least one hour prior to Resin Coat application.

RESIN COATINGS

As detailed above in `colours' you will notice there is an interior use only full gloss version (Permachip Vinyl Chip Resin) and an interior use only semi gloss version (Permachip Marbling Resin), with optional overglaze (Permaglaze) if used for exterior, or for interior use with dark colours. Additionally, for the full broadcast of aggregate there is a specialised resin (Permachip Stone Chip Resin) that is used as the binder.

Because there are seven different finishes, with four possible resin choices, it is not practical to refer to all combinations, however the following offers an outline for interior use. If for exterior use add one coat of Permaglaze to the specification.

Exact details of specifications are contained in the Permachip Designer Coatings applicator manual that is for the confidential use of the applicator.

  1. Smooth finishes - Apply two coats of desired Permachip Resin @ 6m2/kg
  2. Fine anti skid finish (partial aggregate coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 6m2/kg, broadcast Permachip Eurostone BC Fine into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 6m2/kg
  3. Medium anti skid finish (partial aggregate coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 6m2/kg, broadcast Permachip Ceramic Stone into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 5m2/kg
  4. Coarse anti skid finish (partial aggregate coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 4m2/kg, broadcast Permachip 10/30 Stone Chip into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 4m2/kg.
  5. Fine anti skid finish (full coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 6m2/kg, fully broadcast to excess Permachip Eurostone BC Fine into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 3m2/kg
  6. Medium anti skid finish (full aggregate coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 5m2/kg, fully broadcast to excess Permachip Ceramic Stone into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 3m2/kg
  7. Coarse anti skid finish (full aggregate coverage) - Apply first coat of desired Permachip Resin @ 1.8m2/kg, fully broadcast to excess Permachip 10/30 Stone Chip into surface while wet, allow to cure. Apply second resin coat @ 1.8m2/kg.

TIME AND ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

As a broad guideline, preparation work takes between one and two days, and application of the coating takes two days, with allowance for 24-hour cure before use following completion. In specific circumstances these time frames can be reduced by rostering work hours, and use of different hardener types. Specific details require discussion with the applicator.

During the conduct of the work it is essential that no sub trades use the area being completed, to avoid the chance of damage occurring to the surface.
